Theology refers to the body of systematic knowledge that engages in descriptive, analytical, and critical studies of concepts pertaining to God and religious ideas. The objectives of research within theological domains include: attaining a proper understanding of religious traditions, justifying and defending religious propositions, educating and propagating religious teachings, comparing various religions and denominations, reforming and enhancing religiosity, studying the history and recognizing religious sources, methodology and analyzing the methods and approaches in religious studies, revising worldviews, critiquing materialistic and atheistic schools, monitoring and addressing contemporary religious needs, strengthening the religious foundations of society, responding to emerging questions, and examining the relationship between religion and science in the modern era.

The city of Isfahan, the capital of the culture and civilization of Islamic Iran, has long been a cradle of science, wisdom, and religious education, and has hosted numerous scholars and thinkers. Relying on this historical, civilizational, and cultural background, the University of Isfahan has launched the journal "Comparative Theology" to provide a platform for dialogue and interaction among domestic and international religious scholars through original and innovative research with a comparative approach, aligned with the aforementioned objectives.
